BOWL PREVIEW: Wyoming vs. Fresno St.

The Wyoming Cowboys and Fresno St. Bulldogs head to Albuquerque to square off in the New Mexico Bowl. Coach Dave Christensen has done a great job in first year in Laramie. He fielded a much more competitive team than many thought while posting a
6-6 record. Meanwhile, Pat Hill's Bulldogs posted another solid season winning 7 of their last 8 games heading into this weekend. This game is tough to handicap, as I think Wyoming may be a little more competitive here than some think. However, in the end, the Cowboys may not be able to keep up the pace with the Bulldogs explosiveness. Fresno RB Ryan Matthews may have something to prove as he led the nation in rushing and was not invited to the Heisman ceremonies. After being upset here by Colorado St. last year behind Gattrell Johnson's 285 yard rushing performance, coach Hill should have his teams attention and avoid a repeat performance. The fear is a late score by Wyoming against a sub par Fresno defense may be enough to cover the double digit spread, however, we are not going to count on it.
-Take Fresno St. -10

  2. It's disappointing to see your picks "going south." True football observers know that real football is played above the Mason Dixon line.

This "bowl bogus" in domes and friendly warm climates obviously is weighted in favor of the flag football fans and teams that play their version of the game in warm fuzzy climates.

Only in the SEC can a quarterback be the most physical runner three years running. And speaking of quarterbacks the best of the best all played their college football up north where the true game is learned. Brees, Brady, Big Ben and Montana are on the short list.

Yes, the numbers in recent years favor the flag footballers, but playing the big matchups in their environments and often in their HOME stadiums more than slants the playing field.

Well, settling in to watch some tackle football today...by the way northern teams 2-0 to start the "flag football finals."

  3. Actually, I agree with that take 100%. In fact, I dare say that if Ohio St. played LSU and Florida up north in real football conditions they would have at least one more Championship under their belt. The "real bowls" get started shortly, let's hope our ball teams up north do us proud. In the meantime, back to work for the handicapper.

  4. The truth continues to play itself out. Atlanta travels north to play the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets and the "Sanchise" struggles 'cause it's a little chilly. Ryan deals with it-why? Because he learned tackle football at BC and the other guy flag at SC.
